This site needs your location to read the train's speed. Your phone will ask for permission.
TrainSpeed is a free, real-time speedometer for train passengers. Open it in your phone’s browser during a journey and it shows how fast your train is moving, your current height above sea level, and the local temperature — with no app to install.
It works entirely through your browser’s built-in GPS. Your speed is read from the satellite positioning on your device, altitude comes from the same GPS fix, and the temperature is fetched from the Open-Meteo weather service using your approximate location. For the best readings, sit near a window where your phone has a clear view of the sky, and remember the speed only becomes meaningful once the train is actually moving.
Your speed and altitude are calculated from your phone’s GPS, so the site needs location permission to work. Nothing is stored on our servers.
No. TrainSpeed runs in any modern mobile browser. Just open the page and allow location access.
GPS needs a clear signal and actual movement. While stationary, or before the first satellite fix, the speed reads 0 or “--”. It updates within a few seconds once you’re moving.
GPS altitude is approximate and can vary by several metres depending on signal quality, terrain, and your device.
Very little — only small weather lookups and any ads on the page. The speed and altitude calculations themselves use no data.
This Privacy Policy explains how TrainSpeed (the “Site”), operated by AIceworld Technologies (“we”, “us”), handles information when you use this website.
With your permission, the Site reads your device’s GPS location in your browser to calculate your speed and altitude and to look up the local temperature. Your coordinates are processed on your device. To provide temperature, your approximate coordinates are sent to the Open-Meteo weather service. We do not store your location on our servers, do not record your route, and do not sell or share your location for marketing. You can turn off location access at any time in your browser or device settings.
We display advertising through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies at aboutads.info.
We use a simple visitor counter to tally the total number of visits to the Site. It does not identify you personally.
The Site relies on the following third parties, each governed by its own privacy policy: Google AdSense (advertising), Open-Meteo (weather data), Google Fonts (which may receive your IP address to deliver fonts), and our visitor-counter provider.
The Site does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email address, or other personal details to function.
The Site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
You can revoke location permission, clear cookies, and opt out of personalised ads at any time. Depending on your location (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have additional rights regarding your personal data.
If you are located in these regions, advertising partners may require your consent before setting cookies. Where required, consent is collected through a consent banner before personalised ads are shown.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above reflects the latest revision.
